REFERENCE SOURCE:

ARMS (Shield) INTERPRETATION:
Argent - (Means the Shield is Silver (Argent=Silver))
a demi-man vested gules, face proper - (Means a "Half-Man" wearing Red (Gules=Red) garb with a "Naturally Colored" (Proper) Face.
Note: the Vestments/Habit/Garb/Clothes the Demi-Man wears are usually depicted like this as a Demi-Man is assumed to be Affronty (Facing Forward) & Erased (Body "Torn in half") unless otherwise deScribed)

holding on the dexter arm an owl proper - (Means the Man's right (Dexter) arm is holding a "Naturally Colored" (Proper) Owl)
and in the sinister a book sable - (Means the Man's left (Sinister) hand holds a Black (Sable=Black) Book)

CREST (Helmet) INTERPRETATION:
On a Torse of the colors - (Means the next thing deScribed will go upon a cloth wreath (Torse) of 6 twists, alternating between the primary tinctures)
between two buffalo horns argent - (Means the next thing deScribed will go between two Silver (Argent=Silver) Buffalo Horns)
the demi-man as in the shield - (Means just what it says; the Demi-Man will go between the Horns) - this is all then affixed, by the Torse, together with the Mantling, to the Helmet, which is drawn in Profile with the Visor closed or with No Visor nor Grilles - the kind used by a "Bürgerliche" (Esquire/Commoner/Citizen))

SYMBOLISM:
Book - (Symbolism Unknown)
Demi-Man - (Symbolism unknown - very common German device)
Horns - (Strength & fortitude)
Owl - (One who is vigilant and of acute wit)
Colors:
Argent (Silver) - (Peace and sincerity)
Gules (Red) - (Military fortitude and magnanimity)
Sable (Black) - (Constancy, sometimes grief)

Above Blazon (written description) only applies to large Emblazon (drawing).
