BLAZONING OF THE KUNZ COAT OF ARMS
BLAZON (Wappen der Familie Kunz): ARMS (Shield):
Quarterly or and gules upon a trimount of rocks argent a horse rampant sable, upon the second a rose of the third
CREST (Helmet):
Out of a crest coronet the angel vested in a dalmatic and coat azure holding a garland rose
MANTLE (Decken):
Dexter or and sable sinister argent and gules (NOTE: While it is more common in the German achievement,
it is still rare to find the Mantling specifically deScribed such as this)
MOTTO:
None Recorded (Common for the German Achievement)
REFERENCE SOURCE:
Sammlung Siebmacher, Vol 11, Part 3, Pg. 68, Table 70, Registered Arms
ARMS (Shield) INTERPRETATION:
Quarterly - (Means the Shield is divided into four quarters,
called "Marshalling" - the 1st & 4th quarters would be of the Fathers family & the other 2 of the
Mothers family)
Or - (Means the first & forth quarters are Golden (Or=Gold))
and Gules - (Means the second & third quarters will be Red (Gules=Red))
upon a Trimount of Rocks Argent a Horse Rampant Sable - (Means the Gold quarters have
a Black (Sable) Rampaging (Rampant) Male (unless otherwise deScribed) Horse standing, in profile, on
one hind leg atop a Silver (Argent=Silver) tripple "humped" mound (Trimount) made of Rocks)
upon the second a Rose of the third - (Means a Silver (White=Silver=Argent (3rd color
deScribed)) Heraldic Rose is placed upon each of the Red (Gules=Red (2nd color deScribed)) quarters)
CREST (Helmet) INTERPRETATION:
Out of a Crest Coronet the Angel - (Means the Angel will come out from a Golden (unless specifically
deScribed otherwise=Or=Gold) Crest Coronet (often called a "Ducal Coronet"), which is a "Crown-like" device that has no
significance other than to be used only for Heraldic decoration of the Helmet or to signify Government Service - it's always
drawn with only 3 of its 4 Strawberry leaves visible & has no jewels)
Vested in a Dalmatic and Coat Azure - (Means the Angel is dressed (Vested) in a Blue (Azure)
Dalmatic (A piece of cloth as wide as the wearer & twice as long, with a hole in the center for the head) & Coat)
holding a Garland Rose - (Means the Angel is holding a Garland of Heraldic Roses of the main colors of
the achievement. This Crest is then affixed to the Helmet, which is often drawn in Profile with its Visor Closed, or with no Visor nor
Grilles - the kind used by a "Bürgerliche" (Esquire/Commoner/Citizen))
Note: The Silver Trimount on the Gold Shield is usually deemed to be a violation of the "Tincture rule" but this seems to be
fairly common in German Heraldry - regardless, it still must be drawn exactly as deScribed.
SYMBOLISM:
Angel - (Dignity, glory, and honor)
Crown (Coronet) - (Authority)
Note: Because it isn't specifically deScribed in writing, it's unknown whether the Crest Coronet is just an
heraldic adornment (a common practice) or signifies Government Service (also a common practice).
Horse - (Readiness for all employments for king and country)
Rocks - (Safety, refuge and protection)
Rose - (Hope and joy; mark of cadency of the 7th son)
Rose (White) - (Love and faith)
Trimount - (Symbolism unknown - very common German device)
Colors:
Argent (Silver) - (Peace and sincerity)
Azure (Blue) - (Loyalty and truth)
Gules (Red) - (Military fortitude and magnanimity)
Or (Gold) - (Generosity)
Sable (Black) - (Constancy, sometimes grief)
Above Blazon (written description) only applies to large Emblazon (drawing).
