MOTTO:
None recorded (Common for the German Achievement)
REFERENCE SOURCE:
Armorial General by J.B. Rietstap
ARMS (Shield) INTERPRETATION:
Per fess, sable and gules - (Means the Shield is divided in half horizontally (Per Fess(e),
the top half Black (sable) & the bottom half Red (Gules))
in chief a Lion passant guardant or - (Means that a Golden (Or) Walking (Passant) Lion
that is looking toward the viewer (Guardant) is added to the very top of the Shield (Chief))
armed and langued of the second - (Means that the Lions Claws (Armed) and Tongue (Langued)
are Red (Gules=Red - of the 2nd (color)))
the base azure - (Means the bottom portion (third) of the Shield (Base) is colored
Blue (Azure))
surmounted by a Fish naiant proper - (Means the Blue Base is partially overlaid (Surmounted)
by a Fish swimming fesswise (horizontally), head to dexter (Naiant) and is colored using ALL the Heraldic
colors (Proper) which will keep the Red & Blue portions of the Shield from touching - a Heraldic no-no)
CREST (Helmet) INTERPRETATION:
Out of a Ducal Coronet Or - (Means that something (to be deScribed later) will come out from
a Golden (Or=Gold) Ducal Coronet (often called a "Crest Coronet"), which is a "Crown-like" device that has no
significance other than to be used only for Heraldic decoration of the Helmet or to signify Government Service - it's
always drawn with only 3 of its 4 strawberry leaves visible & has no jewels)
between a Vol per fesse alternately sable and argent - (Means that something (to be deScribed later) will go between
the Black & White (alternately sable (Black) and argent (White)) upwardly outstretched wings that are conjoined at the base (Vol))
a Lion rampant issuant of the first - (Means that the "something" is a Golden (of the 1st
color mentioned (Or=Gold)) Rampaging (Rampant) Lion that "comes out as if from behind the helmet" (Issuant) goes
between the wings of the Vol)
holding between the paws a Fish paleways proper - (Means the Lion is holding, between the paws,
a Fish which is vertically oriented (Paleways) and is colored using ALL the Heraldic colors (Proper) - this is all to be
affixed to the Helm (Helmet), which is drawn in profile with the Visor closed, or with no Visor nor Grilles - the kind used by
a "Bürgerliche" (Esquire/Commoner/Citizen) Also, the interpretation of the Mantling is: The (viewers) left is
Silver & Gold, the other side is Gold & Black.
SYMBOLISM:
Crown (Coronet) - (Authority)
Note: Because it isn't specifically deScribed in writing, it's unknown whether the Crest Coronet is just an
heraldic adornment (a common practice) or signifies Government Service (also a common practice).
Fish - (A true, generous mind; virtuous for himself, not because of his heritage)
Lion - (Courage)
Vol (Wings) - (Swiftness, protection, celebrity, or coverture)
Colors:
Argent (Silver) - (Peace and sincerity)
Azure (Blue) - (Loyalty and truth)
Gules (Red) - (Military fortitude and magnanimity)
Or (Gold) - (Generosity)
Sable (Black) - (Constancy, sometimes grief)
Above Blazon (written description) only applies to large Emblazon (drawing).
