For those of us that like written directions:
List of Materials:
1"x 6" x 5' Fence Board.
A few Nails.
A little Glue.
1. Start with the Cedar (or any non-pressure treated wood) fence board (1"x 6"x 5'), which is usually
about 5/8" thick, about 5 1/2" wide, and usually very close to 5' long.
The rougher the better.
2. Cut it as shown below (Measurements are given in both the English system (for those of us in USA) &
Metric (for everyone else (even the English use Metric)).
3. Cut a 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" (32-38mm) diameter hole, with its center about 6" (152mm) from the bottom.
Using the Bottom piece as a guide, attach the back, front, sides & roof as shown in the drawing.
Next, attach the moveable floor piece as shown, so that it will pivot downward for cleaning.
Either drill a 1/4" (6mm) hole in the floor, or make the fit very loose to allow for ventilation.
Lastly, attach an "easily removeable" double headed nail, or such, to secure the floor (so that the nail
can easily be removed to let the floor drop for easy cleanout later).
4. Paint is fine, on the outside, just avoid stain or lead based paint.
Note: you can easily add a perch too, just drill a hole & stick in a dowell - just remember that the
experts say the birds don't need it - it just makes it easier for their predators to get at them.
