ARMS (Shield) INTERPRETATION:
Per Fess - (Means the Shield is divided in half Fessways (Horizontally))
or over gules - (Means the top half of the Shield is Gold (Or) and the bottom half is Red (Gules))
A Lion rampant - (Means, in profile, a rampaging (Rampant) Lion (Male unless otherwise deScribed) standing on one hind leg is placed upon the Shield)
counterchanged - (Means the top half of the Lion has the colors of the bottom half of the Shield and vice-versa)

CREST (Helmet) INTERPRETATION:
On a Torse of the colors - (Means the next thing deScribed will go upon a cloth wreath (Torse) of 6 twists, alternating between the primary tinctures)
between a Vol argent - (Means the next thing deScribed will go between the Silver (Argent= Silver) upraised and outstretched wings that are conjoined at the base (Vol))
A Lion rampant gules issuant - (Means, in profile, a rampaging (Rampant) male Lion standing on one hind leg and colored Red (Gules=Red) "comes out from" behind the Helmet (issues from) is what goes between the Wings of the Vol (we've also seen a gold Lion) - this is all affixed by the Torse (together with the Mantling) to the Helmet, which is drawn in Profile with its Visor Closed, or with no Visor nor Grilles - the kind used by a "Bürgerliche" (Esquire/Commoner/Citizen))

SYMBOLISM:
Lion - (Courage)
Vol (Wings) - (Swiftness, protection, celebrity, or coverture)
Colors:
Argent (Silver) - (Peace and sincerity)
Gules (Red) - (Military fortitude and magnanimity)
Or (Gold) - (Generosity)

Above Blazon (written description) only applies to large Emblazon (drawing).
