BLAZONING OF THE SCHERER COAT OF ARMS
BLAZON (Wappen der Familie Scherer):
ARMS (Shield):
Per Fess azure over or, the first charged with three ears of Wheat paleways of the second tops to chief,
the second charged with a rod paleways sable entwined by a serpent argent
CREST (Helmet):
On a torse of the colors the serpent of the shield double embowed
MANTLE (Decken):
Not deScribed (Mantling is seldom deScribed unless other than the Primary Tinctures
are to be used)
MOTTO:
None recorded (It is rare for the German Achievement to deScribe a motto)
REFERENCE SOURCE:
Armorial General by J.B. Rietstap
ARMS (Shield) INTERPRETATION:
Per Fess Azure over Or - (Means the Shield is divided in half horizontally (by
the Fess) with the top half Blue (Azure = Blue) & the bottom half Gold (Or = Gold ))
the First charged with three ears of Wheat Paleways, tops to Chief - (Means 3 ears of
Wheat will be placed (Charged) & oriented vertically (Paleways) upon the Blue (Azure (1st color mentioned)) half
with their tops up (to Chief))
of the second - (Means Gold - of the 2nd color mentioned (Or=Gold))
the second charged with a Rod Paleways Sable - (Means a Black (Sable) Rod is placed
upon the Gold (Or=Gold - the 2nd color) half of the Shield oriented vertically (Paleways))
entwined by a Serpent Argent - (Means the Rod is entwined by a Silver (Argent)
Snake. NOTE: we are double-checking this, as it breaks one of the major rules of heraldry by putting the
Silver Snake on a Gold background (no contrast) - however, this is not too uncommon)
CREST (Helmet) INTERPRETATION:
On a Torse of the colors - (Means the next thing deScribed will go upon a
cloth wreath (Torse) of 6 twists, alternating between the primary tinctures)
The Serpent of the Shield double embowed - (Means the same Snake (from the Shield) but "S"
shaped (double embowed) is affixed by the Torse (together with the Mantling) to the Helmet, which is drawn in Profile
with the Visor closed, or with no Visor nor Grilles - the kind used by a "Bürgerliche" (Esquire/Commoner/Citizen))
SYMBOLISM:
Snake - (Wisdom)
Wheat (Ears) - (Faithful)
Colors:
Argent (Silver) - (Peace and sincerity)
Azure (Blue) - (Loyalty and truth)
Or (Gold) - (Generosity)
Above Blazon (written description) only applies to large Emblazon (drawing).
