BLAZONING OF THE SCHELL COAT OF ARMS

BLAZON (Wappen der Familie Schell):
ARMS (Shield):

Gules upon a fess argent, between three Fleurs-de-lis of the latter, a snake vert
CREST (Helmet):
Non
MANTLE (Decken):
Not deScribed (Mantling is seldom deScribed and usually takes the Tinctures of the Shield)

MOTTO:
None recorded (It is rare for the German Achievement to deScribe a motto)

REFERENCE SOURCE:
Armorial General by J.B. Rietstap

ARMS (Shield) INTERPRETATION:
Gules - (Means the Shield is Red (Gules=Red))
upon a Fess Argent - (Means a something (a Snake) to be deScribed later will go upon a Silver (Argent) Fess, which is a horizontal strip occupying 1/3 of the shield taken at the center of the Shield)
between three Fleurs-de-Lis - (Means the Horizontal strip at the center is between 3 Fleurs-de-Lis, which are placed upon the Shield in the usual arrangement - as it wasn't specifically deScribed. That is: 2 to Chief (Top 1/3rd of Shield), 1 to Base (Bottom 1/3rd of Shield), usually deScribed as "2 & 1".))
of the latter - (Means the Fleurs-de-Lis have the color of the Fess (the middle third of the shield) which is Silver)
a Snake Vert - (Means the Green (Vert) Snake is the Charge (object) that gets put onto the Silver Fess)

CREST (Helmet) INTERPRETATION:
Non - (Means no known Crest was deScribed to be affixed by the Torse (wreath of cloth with 6 twists, alternating between the primary tinctures) together with the Mantling, to the Helmet, which is drawn in Profile with the Visor closed, or with no Visor nor Grilles - the kind used by a "Bürgerliche" (Esquire/Commoner/Citizen))
Note: The snake should properly be drawn with its head facing the viewers left (the default orientation) but it's too hard to make an "S" shape that way.

SYMBOLISM:
Fess - (Military belt or girdle of honor; represents readiness to serve the public)
Fleur-de-Lis - (Purity, light, floral badge of France - also the mark of cadency of the 6th Son)
Snake - (Wisdom)
Colors:
Argent (Silver) - (Peace and sincerity)
Gules (Red) - (Military fortitude and magnanimity)
Vert (Green) - (Hope, joy and sometimes loyalty in love)
