Per Fess - (Means the Shield is divide in half Fessways (Horizontally))
Or over Sable - (Means the top half of the Shield is Gold (Or=Gold)
and the bottom half is Black (Sable=Black))
A Lion Rampant - (Means, in profile, a rampaging (Rampant) male (unless otherwise deScribed)
Lion standing on one hind leg is placed on the Shield)
Counterchanged - (Means, the top half of the Lion takes on the colors
of the bottom half of the Shield & vice-versa)
Holding a tournament lance or - (Means the Lion is holding a Golden (Or=Gold) Tournament
