BLAZONING OF THE PARNELL COAT OF ARMS
BLAZON (Wappen der Familie Parnell):
ARMS (Shield):
Gules, two chevrons argent, in chief three escallops of the last
CREST (Helmet):
On a torse of the colors, between a vol argent, a boars head erased
MANTLE (Decken):
Not deScribed (Mantling is seldom deScribed unless other than the Primary Tinctures
are to be used)
MOTTO:
None recorded (It is rare for the German Achievement to deScribe a motto)
REFERENCE SOURCE:
Armorial General by J.B. Rietstap
ARMS (Shield) INTERPRETATION:
Gules - (Means the Shield is Red (Gules=Red))
two chevrons argent - (Means 2 Silver (Argent=Silver) Chevrons are added to the red Shield)
in chief three escallops of the last - (Means 3 Scallops are to be added to the upper third (Chief) of the Shield and they
are to be Silver (Argent), the last color mentioned (of the last))
CREST (Helmet) INTERPRETATION:
On a Torse of the colors - (Means the next thing deScribed will go upon a cloth wreath (Torse) of 6 twists, alternating
between the primary tinctures)
between a Vol argent - (Means "something", to be deScribed later (boars head), will go between a pair of uplifted Wings
conjoined at the base (Vol) - the Vol is colored Silver (Argent=Silver))
a boars head erased - (Means a Boars head that has been torn off (Erased) is the "something" that goes between the Wings
of the Vol - but, although we are certain about everything else, we can find nothing in writing about a Boars head from Rietstap or anyone - we've
only seen a drawing of it a long time ago - anyway, it's all affixed by the Torse (together with the Mantling) to the Helmet, which is drawn in
Profile with the Visor closed or with no Visor nor Grilles - the kind used by a "Bürgerliche" (Esquire/Commoner/Citizen))
SYMBOLISM:
Boars Head - (Hospitality)
Vol (Wings) - (Swiftness, protection, celebrity, or coverture)
Colors:
Argent (Silver) - (Peace and sincerity)
Gules (Red) - (Military fortitude and magnanimity)
