BLAZONING OF THE INGRAM COAT OF ARMS

BLAZON (Wappen der Familie Ingram): ARMS (Shield):
Sable a horse rampant argent
CREST (Helmet):
On a torse of the colors a horse
MANTLE (Decken):
Not deScribed (Mantling is seldom deScribed and usually takes the Tinctures of the Shield)

MOTTO:
None recorded (It is rare for the German Achievement to deScribe a motto)

REFERENCE SOURCE:
Armorial General by J.B. Rietstap

ARMS (Shield) INTERPRETATION:
Sable - (Means the Shield is Black (Sable = Black))
A Horse Rampant Argent - (Means a rearing & rampaging (Rampant) Horse in profile, colored Silver (Argent = Silver (depicted as White)) is added to the Shield)

CREST (Helmet) INTERPRETATION:
On a Torse of the colors - (Means the next thing deScribed will go upon a cloth wreath (Torse) of 6 twists, alternating between the primary tinctures)
A Horse - (Means just that - a Horse is affixed to the Helmet. Horse can be either Argent or Sable (Silver or Black) and can be oriented in any attitude (Rampant, Sejant, etc.) as the Blazon did not specifically state - however the attitude & colors of the Shield are preferred. The Horse is then affixed by the Torse (together with the Mantling) to the Helmet, which is drawn in Profile with its Visor closed, or with no Visor nor Grilles - the kind used by a "Bürgerliche" (Esquire/Commoner/Citizen))

SYMBOLISM:
Horse - (Readiness for all employments for king and country)
Colors:
Argent (Silver) - (Peace and sincerity)
Sable (Black) - (Constancy, sometimes grief)

Above Blazon (written description) only applies to large Emblazon (drawing).
