BLAZONING OF THE CORY COAT OF ARMS

BLAZON:
ARMS (Shield):

Sable, on a chevron, between three griffins' heads, erased or as many mullets, gules
CREST (Helmet):
Out of a ducal coronet, a griffin's head between two wings or, each wing charged with three mullets, in pale, gules
MANTLE:
Not deScribed (Mantling is seldom deScribed unless other than the Primary Tinctures are to be used)

MOTTO:
"Forti Tene Manu" (hold with a firm hand.)

REFERENCE SOURCE:

ARMS (Shield) INTERPRETATION:
Sable - (Means the Shield is Black (Sable=Black))
on a chevron - (Means "Something" (to be DeScribed later) will be placed upon a Golden (Or=Gold) Chevron (an inverted "V"))
between three griffins' heads, erased or - (Means the Golden Chevron will be placed between 3 Golden (Or=Gold) Griffins Heads, which are Erased (Erased=drawn "Torn off at the Neck". Note that the Griffins Heads are added to the Shield in the usual arrangement - as it wasn't specifically deScribed. That is: 2 to Chief (Top 1/3 of Shield), 1 to Base (Bottom 1/3 of Shield), usually deScribed as "2 & 1".)
as many mullets, gules - (Means we now find out what is to be placed upon the Chevron, and it is 3 (as many as the Griffin Heads) Stars (Mullets=Stars) and they're all Red (Gules=Red) Incidentally, the Stars are drawn with 5 points, because a Mullett is a 5 pointed Star unless deScribed otherwise)

CREST (Helmet) INTERPRETATION:
Out of a ducal coronet, a griffin's head between two wings or - (Means a golden (or) Griffins Head (drawn "erased" as in the Arms) is affixed between a pair of golden (or), upwardly pointing Wings, and this all "comes out" from a Ducal Coronet (often called a "Crest Coronet"), which is a "Crown-like" device that has no significance except either for Helmet decoration or to signify Government Service - it's always drawn with only 3 of its 4 Strawberry leaves shown & without jewels.
each wing charged with three mullets, in pale, gules - (Means that each Wing has 3 Red (Gules) Stars (Mulletts) placed (Charged) upon it and arranged vertically (in Pale). This Crest is then affixed to the Helmet, which is drawn in Profile with its Visor Closed, or with no Visor nor Grilles - the kind used by an Esquire/Commoner/Citizen)

SYMBOLISM:
Chevron - (Protection; Builders or others who have accomplished some work of faithful service)
Crown (Coronet) - (Authority) Note: Because it isn't specifically deScribed in writing, it's unknown whether the Crest Coronet is just an heraldic adornment (a common practice) or signifies Government Service (also a common practice).
Griffon - (Valour and death-defying bravery; vigilance)
Star (Mullet) - (Divine quality from above; mark of cadency of the 3rd son)
Vol (Wings) - (Swiftness, protection, celebrity, or coverture)
Colors:
Gules (Red) - (Military fortitude and magnanimity)
Or (Gold) - (Generosity)
Sable (Black) - (Constancy, sometimes grief)
