BLAZONING OF THE BERTSCH COAT OF ARMS
BLAZON (Wappen der Familie Bertsch):
ARMS (Shield):

Bendy of eight sable and or, upon a terrace of the first, a mount of the second
CREST (Helmet):
On a torse of the colors a vol per fesse alternately sable and or
MANTLE (Decken):
Not deScribed (Mantling is seldom deScribed unless other than the Primary Tinctures are to be used)

MOTTO:
None recorded (It is rare for the German Achievement to deScribe a motto)

REFERENCE SOURCE:
Armorial General by J.B. Rietstap

ARMS (Shield) INTERPRETATION:
Bendy of eight sable and or - (Means the Shield has 8 diagonal "stripes", running from the (viewers) left to right, top to bottom (Bendy), which are alternately colored Black (Sable=Black) and Gold (Or=Gold))
upon a terrace of the first - (Means something, to be deScribed next (Mount) will go upon a diminutive (smaller version) of the Base (a Terrace), and the terrace will be colored Black (of the first (the 1st color mentioned is Black (Sable=Black)))
a mount of the second - (Means a Golden (of the second (the 2nd color mentioned is Gold (Or=Gold) Mount (Mound))
So, we have 8 Black & Gold diagonal stripes above a small Black base that has a Gold mount in it.

CREST (Helmet) INTERPRETATION:
On a Torse of the colors - (Means the next thing deScribed will go upon a cloth wreath (Torse) of 6 twists, alternating between the primary tinctures)
A Vol - (Means a pair of uplifted Wings conjoined at the base)
per fesse - (Means the Wings are divided in half horizontally)
alternately sable and or - (Means the top half of the left Wing is Black (Sable) and the bottom half is Gold (Or), and the right Wing is the opposite (Alternately) - this Vol is then affixed, by the Torse, together with the Mantling, to the Helmet, which is drawn in Profile with the Visor closed or with No Visor nor Grilles - the kind used by a "Bürgerliche" (Esquire/Commoner/Citizen))br>
SYMBOLISM:
Bend - (Defense or protection)
Mount - (Symbolism unknown)
Terrace - (Symbolism unknown)
Vol (Wings) - (Swiftness, protection, celebrity, or coverture)
Colors:
Or (Gold) - (Generosity)
Sable (Black) - (Constancy, sometimes grief)
