BLAZONING OF THE ARNOLD COAT OF ARMS
BLAZON (Wappen der Familie Arnold):
ARMS (Shield):
Argent, a cross flory gules
CREST (Helmet):
Between a vol argent, a cross
MANTLE (Decken):
Not deScribed (Mantling is seldom deScribed unless other than the Primary Tinctures
are to be used)
MOTTO:
None recorded (It is rare for the German Achievement to deScribe a motto)
REFERENCE SOURCE:
Armorial General by J.B. Rietstap
ARMS (Shield) INTERPRETATION:
Argent - (Means the Shield is Silver (Argent=Silver))
a Cross flory gules - (Means a Red (Gules=Red) Cross, of the "Flory" type or style)
CREST (Helmet) INTERPRETATION:
On a Torse of the colors - (Means the next thing deScribed will go upon a
cloth wreath (Torse) of 6 twists, alternating between the primary tinctures)
Between a Vol argent - (Means "something" (cross), to be deScribed later, will go between
a pair of uplifted Wings conjoined at the base (Vol) & colored Silver (Argent=Silver))
a cross - (Means a Cross - but it is implied that the same type of Cross as is in the
Shield will be used (we've seen both Red & Black - Black looks best) to go between the Wings of the Vol, and then
it's all affixed by the Torse (together with the Mantling) to the Helmet, which is drawn in Profile with the Visor
closed or with no Visor nor Grilles - the kind used by a "Bürgerliche" (Esquire/Commoner/Citizen))
SYMBOLISM:
Cross (Flory) - (One who has conquered)
Vol (Wings) - (Swiftness, protection, celebrity, or coverture)
Colors:
Argent (Silver) - (Peace and sincerity)
Gules (Red) - (Military fortitude and magnanimity)
